After the fifth grade we had to pass a major government exam in all subjects in order to complete elementary school and move on with our education. Among those subjects was calligraphy. We used the traditional qalam ney—a reed pen—which our teacher…

Heech
“Heech” literally meaning “nothing” in Persian can also be understood as the void, the space to be filled by creation and creativity. This work is in homage to Parviz Tanavoli. His work, which II saw regularly growing up in Tehran has been an enormous inspiration in my own artwork and understanding of calligraphy.

In our household we celebrate Passover, Easter and Iranian New Year – which this year are all happening at the same time! Blessings to everyone, no matter what traditions you follow.
