Ahlan—أهلا–
is
“family,” as in “You’ve come to stay with family,”
and sahlanسهلا
is
flat or open place without obstacles and where there is abundance to
be shared with visitors. “Welcome:
you’re with family, be at ease.” The calligraphy is done in a stylized Kufic that brings to mind traditional Palestinian embroidery designs.
